BSSD Department of Public Safety
Safety, Security, and Important Dates
BSSD is one of the few school districts in the State of Missouri with its own police department. Led by Chief Mike Russell, our Department of Public Safety includes 25 officers and two K-9 officers. Every school has its own School Resource Officer, each with law enforcement experience outside of their current role. Additionally, Blue Springs High School and Blue Springs South High School have two officers on site, one of whom is a sworn officer from the Blue Springs Police Department.
New This Year – Raptor Visitor Management System
As an added layer of safety and security, BSSD will begin using the Raptor Visitor Management System in all school buildings. Any visitor who goes beyond the front office during the school day must sign in using the Raptor Visitor Management System.
Visitors will show their ID and sign in at the office kiosk. Once approved, the visitor will be issued a badge and may enter the school. To save time, we recommend downloading the Raptor Safe app, which allows visitors to sign in quickly and securely using a QR code. Information about the Raptor Safe app and instructions are attached. Data from the system/app will not be shared with any outside agencies.
Safety is always our top priority, and we appreciate your patience and flexibility as we strengthen our safety and security practices.
The Raptor Visitor Management System is in addition to, and not a replacement for, the background check screening process every volunteer is required to complete.
